Do any of you guys/gurls have a left over pair of T-90s from the days before the Horn/Heil two-ways came along?  I didn't buy a pair back in the day and would like to try them on a vintage speaker I have in a second system.

If you'd like to sell a pair, please let me know via PM or email.

Thanks,
Henry

Back in the days I bought the T-90 for my horns. Now I have the Heils.

However, mine are not for sale. I use mine with my ACI Sapphire II speakers and a different Cap. Sounds pretty good. The Sound has become more detailed without being aggressive or bright.

Hope you find yourself some T-90.

What cap do you use in the Sapphires?  I'm going to pair the T90a with some Bozaks.

Heils are the way to go with Horns for sure.  Smiley

I believe the Sapphire have a sensitivity of around 89 db/1W

So Ed suggested 0.22uf on the positive leg, which works PERFECT with my Sapphire.

Cool Capt, thanks.  Mine are in the 90dB range so I was hoping to hear that low values would be a good place to start as I'm becoming penniless in my old age (those 1-1.5uF caps get pricey in the high end brands).  I should be able to rake through a decade of failed experimental parts to make something good happen.  Wink

You should be able to try some cheap RS caps before forking out the big cash for high quality caps. Or as you said, maybe find some in your chunk pile.

Ed used a 0.33 uf cap on the Fostex T-90 and his horn, Which were somwehere around 93 db

My Sapphire II are 89 db and a 0.22 uf works perfect with that.

So if your speaker is around 90 db you should be fine with a cap just a little bigger then mine.

Thanks the Ed and Capt. Z for the cap value recommendations, that alleviated a lot of frustrated decapitation.  The Fostex tweeters work great with the 50 yo Bozaks with 0.22uF caps.

BTW, I have all the Bozak info including the bill of sale from 1967.  They were owned by Lloyd Smith, sax/woodwind player who was inducted into the St. Louis Jazz Hall of Fame.  They were parked in his den from '67 - '99 when he died.  Lloyd traded a McIntosh C22, a McIntosh MC240 and two University speakers plus $1071 for the Bozaks.  Big money 50 years ago.

I'm the third owner and got these from a guy that had them rewired and the crossovers renewed with caps and resistors.  These speakers are pretty special in that they can be tri-amped if someone gets insane like the second owner did with his mountain of McIntosh boxes.  He advised me to get a decent amp and just enjoy them... and I do from time to time.  Smiley

My HS Model 2/Heils are the reference and more accurate, but it's fun to step back and let these old gals rip.  The strange part is that these two very different speakers share many good traits.  Rudy Bozak made some pretty nice low mass woofers and midranges that still hold up well today.
