I'm coming. Its my turn to drive this year Cheerwino. I will bring some weird audio stuff, if Ed will let me Wink Have you guys heard speakers with leather surrounds before? These old 12" Magnavox divers have been modified with leather surrounds and spiders. Let me know if you would like to hear them.

...and the Luddite 2 10 amp, and the 24/96 LightSabre DAC.

I'd like to see the leather surrounds, and hear the story behind them.   Cool

Hey Randy, I like what you did with the doubling of the wood frame.  The proportions are very nice.   Smiley

homey... what Randy said.  I hope you can make it.

Just a Hornfest 2011 bumpski...   Wink

Yep, a couple of drywall screws through the shingles and into the decking should be good for 10-15 mph winds.  Nice work.   Cheesy

I think the carbon footprint talk is preparation for the carbon tax shove.  My throat still hurts from the healthcare bill.   Grin

...Sure it's coming but I think the ones in Henry's pic were probably (a guess, ok) due to "something" other than heat and line voltage. Tell us Henry!...

I recently read a blurb about the dreaded "capacitor plague" that infected the computer industry... and I stole that photo from Wikipedia:

That's what I immediately thought of when Ed reminded me of his old "egg cooker" (yes, he threatened to make breakfast on it).  That thing was a hottie for sure.   Cool

I left mine on 24/7 for over a year, only cutting it off to move it or try something out. Far as I know it's still cranking out the tunes, bless it's heart.

Boomski.   Shocked

Hey Randy, less than two months to go.   Grin

Before you know it, we'll be hanging out in the sauna room basking in the light of the tube.

There is a new debate in my home state.  Some parties want to publish the names and addresses of all Illinois gun owners...

Great, own a gun and be treated like a sex offender.   Roll Eyes

I, too, like the new issue Gold Lions.  They are the best sounding new production tubes I've tried in the Carina amp, and at about $55 for a matched pair, not too expensive.

I like the JJ's as well and they certainly are a bargain, but the Gold Lions work better for me.
867  General Category / Technical discussion / Re: What amp do you run with your horns? on: February 15, 2011, 11:30:49 PM
Honestly, I think it's pretty hard to go wrong with the Horns and a tube amp... even a modest tube amp.

I still have a pair of ASL Wave 8's that started my tube obsession.  Those little monoblocks have such a fun jump factor about them; very fast and punchy little devils that make people smile.  They can be a little unrefined at times, but in a good way like an old blues wailer.   Wink

I second the Carina; EL84 tubes are wonderful little beasts and Eddie Vaughn rules.

I have a homemade pp 45 amp having that magical midrange that works well with the Horns.  Being push-pull, it can rock pretty well.

Another good little inexpensive amp is the Spud 6cl6 kit that Jerry provides over at the Hawthorne site.  Very clean and pristine sounding, and fun to tweak.

I'm awaiting a 300b kit from Gabe Velez.  Curiously, Randy didn't mention that one in his line up which makes me a little nervous.  Undecided I hope it'll work well with the Horns.   Grin

My favorite solid state amp (that I own) is the Audiosector LM3875 Amplifier Kit.  Mine has all the Patek model options and trades some of the imaging tricks for wonderful bass and dynamics.

This just made me think of Ed, so I had to post. Be sure to watch until the end for the big tat reveal!

What happened to global warming?
We've been lied to.

Now Al is saying that the warmer global temps are allowing the atmosphere to contain more water vapor resulting in bigger snows and heavier rains.  Of course that contradicts some of his buddies' predictions from a few years ago:

"children won't know what snow is in the future."   Roll Eyes

He and his "scientists" should get on the same page.

So... the charlatan rocks on... and so do I.   Grin
